Please share a memory of Josie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Josie Lee Richardson was born December 25, 1928 to the late Tommie Lee Richardson and Annie Missie Hall Richardson in a small wooden house in Hardaway, Alabama. She went home to reside in heaven April 11, 2015 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, New Jersey. Josie attended school in Shorter and Tuskegee, Alabama. She spent most of her childhood working on the farm with her sisters and brothers, mother and father. She came to know the Lord in the Damascus Baptist Church at an early age. Her Christian walk started there and continued throughout her stay here on earth. She became a member of the Messiah Baptist Church while living in East Orange and joined Macedonia when she moved to the Brick area in the 1990's. Her strong faith lead her triumphantly through many bouts of illness and trials until God called her home to live in Heaven. Her official work history began in the Newark, New Jersey area in the 1950's where she started working with her first mate Harold Lowe at his independent business selling meats and fish. Her work took her to Willowbrook Development center in Staten Island, New York for over 27 years. She worked as a direct care giver and as a physical therapist assistant. Her second life mate relationship with Carneil Underwood started in 1997. They spent 16 years together and successfully blended two life styles creating numerous new family and friend relationships. Josie leaves to mourn her departure, four children, Barbara Arrington (Michael), Ruth Lowe-Surge, Rudolph Richardson (Barbara) and Donald Lowe. Her seven step children, Gregory (Jeanette), Renee, Veronica, Sonia, Darryl, Hasan and Cubie Underwood. Ten grandchildren, Sandra Alexander Johnson, Tess Alexander Runson, Tamika Mitchell, Robert Taylor, Fritz Taylor, Koya Lowe, LeAnna Lowe-Lumpkin, Sheena Richardson, Mandarius Lowe and Kuba Jagoda. 14 great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Ruth Richardson (Charles), Naomi Robinson (Nelson), Sadie Clark (Kenneth) and Eura Dean Underwood. Two brothers Samuel Richardson (Patricia) and Eddie Dean Taylor, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at the Macedonia Baptist Church, 143 John Street, Lakewood, NJ on Monday, April 20, 2015, from 10:00 to 11:00am and the funeral service will be offered from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
